The Celtic Cross is the most famous and most elaborate tarot spread. Ten cards form two parts: the central cross (the situation and its influences) and the vertical staff (external factors, hopes, and the outcome). It is a spread for questions that call for deep analysis.

When to use this spread

When you are facing a complex life situation and want to see it from many angles: what drives it, what blocks it, how others see it, and where it is heading. Not for quick questions - it takes time and focus.

How to interpret the cards

Start with the pair of cards 1 and 2 - they define the core and the challenge. Then read the cross (3-6) as a timeline, and the staff (7-10) from bottom to top as a rising path toward the outcome. Card 10 is not a verdict but a tendency - compare it with card 5 to see the gap between what you want and where you are heading.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Celtic Cross difficult?

It is an advanced spread - ten positions take skill to connect. Before you take it on, it is worth mastering the three-card spread.

What does the card in the "outcome" position mean?

It is the most likely result on the current course of action, not an irreversible fate. By changing your attitude (position 7), you can change the outcome.
